a short fictional dramedy that observes an intergenerational dialogue between Rajasthani mothers, wives, and sisters from the 1970s India.

about the film

FOR CHOICE & GENDER EQUALITY

Shakti is a journey of two women navigating patriarchy in a 1970s Rajasthan. When Shakti and her mother struggle over a baby girl, the nurse intervenes. On the one hand, the mother negotiates with the doctor to let the girl live, but away from Shakti. On the other hand, Shakti wants to keep the baby so plans with the nurse to find her. Both Shakti and her mother push limits for the sake of their children.

The simple dramatic question of the film is: Will Shakti find and unite with her baby girl?

The bigger question is: how long before women and girls can understand each other and liberate themselves?
